Time to reclaim this Country of ours.
We are overrun with overseas scum who hate us but love our money.

They rob, rape and murder our citizens whilst stealing our jobs or taking the tax payers money through benefits.

No more economic migrants,no more convicted criminals lets sort this country out before we are the minority.

Come on Cameron grow some balls and start kicking these fuckers out and stand up to the EU.

Ok, so just to wrap up....

English is NOT a collection of words from around the world.

It's merely French & German origin, who nicked there's from the Latin & reek language (but that doesn't count you see), and all the other words in the English language from around the world, that are recognised by the English language, don't count either, because Surface said so.

Got it?

Re: Time to reclaim this Country of ours.
My general point which is the English language is derived from words originating from across the globe, which is true.

"when my general point is shown to be complete bollocks, is to attempt to pick a hole in some trivial part of the argument" ... is that not what you are doing by debating whether I used the word 'just' when saying language is a collection of words

What I would do if I were you, is when my general point is shown to be complete bollocks, is to attempt to pick a hole in some trivial part of the argument which has discomfited me.

Did I say English is 'just' a collection of words from around the world? I think it's been established that words in the English language originate from around the globe, so my statement is far from nonsense.

What is nonsense is the below statement:

The idea that th English language is a collection of words picked up from round the world is total bollocks.

Excellent. So your statement that English is just a collection of words from all around the world is nonsense.

It's also an example of Newspeak.

Actually I'm completely right. Unless you have suddenly decided French is no longer a Latin language.

Can you really not understand that French (a Latin language), may have words that are derived from the Latin (a language that took on many Greek words).

So, to suddenly decide that Latin is an entirely separate component of the language from French is obtuse.

It's not, but words are the foundation of any language.

Oh dear, it's not your own country and it's not even your own language.
Perhaps it's time to give up this getting it back nonsense and start actually being it?

We've got the richest language in the world and yet there are third generation immigrants who don't want to speak it.

Re: Time to reclaim this Country of ours.
So you're wrong about the origins of english language, the percentage of words used in the english language, the universal language of science....and you're still convinced you're right.

Well this has been enjoyable!

But to absorb in German is absorbieren. Thats what makes our language so rich. Most words derived from the germanic and Latin. The latin is often the more high brow version.

Who would have thought we would have to assimilate a Japanese wordto describer a Japanese zither with 13 strings? Barely a day goes by without me needing to say koto.

Re: Time to reclaim this Country of ours.
Are Greek, Latin, Norman words etc not from around the world? Or does those territories lie within England?

The fact still remains that a vast number of words in our language hail from around the globe from areas such as the Americas, Asia and Africa. And given that those words from those areas are part of our language, our language therefore is a collection of words from around the world.
